Procrastination Station

This is my fun little place where i can stand naked in front of the world and post all of the interesting things that I see and do, often times while i should be seeing and doing other things. I hope this inspires you to see and do something other than what you are 'supposed' to be. Enjoy the respite!

Oh, and who am i you might ask? Well, i am a 35 year old Chicago transplant working on a Ph.D. in Architecture at Georgia Tech. My research is focused on human behavior in the built environment, design methods, and historical classification systems.

When Will You Come Home - Galaxie 500

I started my day this morning while listening to Galaxie 500’s fantastic album, On Fire! Try it sometime.  Great morning album!  Now I am listening to Rihanna. Go figure!

“Though criminally overlooked in their own lifetime, Galaxie 500 later emerged as one of the pivotal underground groups of the post-punk era; dreamy and enigmatic, their minimalist dirges presaged the rise of both the shoegazer and slowcore movements of the 1990s” - Pandora Radio

Alela Diane - Tired Feet - Starmag (via animatricestv)

Pirate’s Gospel is one of my favorite albums of the past year and Alela Diane is one of my favorite artists in recent memory. She is woefully overlooked and needs to be heard.  If I could choose anyone to sing me to sleep at night she would be the hands down winner.

Butch Walker - Ponce De Leon Ave.

I live on this street in Atlanta. I don’t think I have ever lived on a street that has a song named after it before. Everybody give Atlanta and Butch Walker some love.

The US government should order a complete replacement for its vehicle fleet to be delivered over the next four years. The new vehicles must be either plugin electric hybrid, pure electric, or possibly natural gas. Obviously retooling both at the manufacturers and suppliers is required to deliver this order so the government should be willing to prepay a significant part of it as it does for new weapons systems. That gets money into the system fast and creates/saves jobs almost immediately.

The life of a Ph.D. student

This is the funny but true content of an email I received from a fellow Ph.D. student.  I am in year five.

Before joining PhD:
* I want to win the Nobel Prize.
* I want to win the Turing Award.

First year of PhD:
* I want to finish PhD in two years.
* I want to publish papers only in top tier conferences.
* I want to make ground-breaking research.
* I want to win the best PhD Thesis award.

Second year of PhD:
* I want to finish PhD in 5 years.
* I want a problem.
* Shall I change my advisor?

Third year of PhD:
* I want a paper; I don’t care which conference.
* Shall I change my topic?
* I want to be known as Dr bhOndOO.

Fourth year of PhD:
* I want to finish PhD!
* My industry-friends have two children by now. When will I get married?

Fifth year of PhD:
* Why did I come here?
* Why did I choose this advisor?
* Why did I choose this topic?

Sixth year of PhD:
* Someone give me a degree!
* I want to leave this place — for ever.
* Let me leave.

Seventh year of PhD:
* People call me uncle.
* She waited and finally married someone else..
* I don’t want any degree. I just want to live peacefully
